The Federation of Ontario Law Associations (FOLA) congratulates Shalini Konanur on being elected Treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario (“LSO”) for the 2026-2027 term. As the first racialized woman to hold this position, along with her extensive leadership experience in governance and legal aid, the future of the LSO is in good hands.
FOLA thanks outgoing Treasurer Peter Wardle for his two terms of service as Treasurer from 2024-2026. He guided the LSO through turbulent times including appointing a new CEO and significant changes in corporate governance. Importantly, he continued to foster and nourish Ontario’s county and district law library system, taking steps toward bringing lawyers and paralegals to under-served communities.
“It is remarkable that Shalini Konanur has been elected to lead the Law Society of Ontario. I admire her dedication to diverse populations and service in various practice areas in urban and rural settings together with her extensive experience in Ontario’s legal aid system. There are certainly parallels between her work and the work of our members,” said Jennifer S. Rooke, FOLA Chair. “Her experience will help our county and district law associations succeed in serving the public. We congratulate her on this historic achievement and look forward to working together.”
FOLA is a non-profit organization that represents Ontario’s 46 county and district law associations. Most of FOLA’s members are sole practitioners or work in small firms across the province.
